Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Power, Consumer Durables and Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty lost 0.09%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.18%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Sesa Sterlite Ltd (NSE:SESA), which rose 6.73% or 14.30 points to trade at 226.70 at the close. Meanwhile, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NSE:KTKM) added 6.31% or 84.45 points to end at 1423.25 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (NSE:TISC) was up 5.10% or 18.45 points to 380.10 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Cairn India Limited (NSE:CAIL), which fell 2.30% or 5.05 points to trade at 214.25 at the close. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NSE:MAHM) declined 1.93% or 23.25 points to end at 1179.25 and State Bank Of India (NSE:SBI) was down 1.84% or 5.10 points to 272.05.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sesa Sterlite Ltd (BO:SESA) which rose 6.64% to 226.40, TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which was up 4.95% to settle at 379.20 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which gained 4.65% to close at 139.45.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 2.02% to 1175.05 in late trade, Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which lost 1.88% to settle at 1179.70 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 1.86% to 272.15 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 777 to 657 and 8 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 359 fell and 332 advanced.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was up 0.33% to 17.3650.
Gold for June delivery was up 0.01% or 0.10 to $1186.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.98% or 0.57 to hit $59.51 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.77% or 0.51 to trade at $66.96 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.22% to 63.480, while EUR/INR fell 0.39% to 70.5340.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.22% at 95.80.
