Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Electric Power and Industrials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 2.21% to hit a new 6-months high.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3), which rose 20.33% or 2.20 points to trade at 13.02 at the close. Meanwhile, Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) added 13.41% or 0.35 points to end at 2.96 and Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) was up 11.56% or 0.23 points to 2.22 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3), which fell 9.56% or 0.35 points to trade at 3.31 at the close. Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3) declined 2.64% or 0.33 points to end at 12.17 and Localiza Rent a Car SA (SA:RENT3) was down 1.23% or 0.41 points to 32.89.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 221 to 71 and 25 ended unchanged.
Shares in Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 20.33% or 2.20 to 13.02.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 3.74% to 55.63.
Gold for June delivery was down 1.31% or 16.50 to $1244.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.52% or 0.64 to hit $41.53 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract fell 1.99% or 2.48 to trade at $122.05 .
USD/BRL was up 0.04% to 3.4876, while EUR/BRL fell 0.89% to 3.9331.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.85% at 94.82.
