Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Energy and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.37%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TO:TRQ), which rose 4.28% or 0.160 points to trade at 3.900 at the close. Meanwhile, Badger Daylighting Ltd . (TO:BAD) added 4.10% or 0.91 points to end at 23.09 and Pretium Resources Inc. (TO:PVG) was up 3.75% or 0.44 points to 12.16 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Aimia Inc (TO:AIM), which fell 11.57% or 0.28 points to trade at 2.14 at the close. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) declined 7.07% or 0.330 points to end at 4.340 and Asanko Gold Inc (TO:AKG) was down 6.27% or 0.180 points to 2.690.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 609 to 501 and 153 ended unchanged.
Shares in Aimia Inc (TO:AIM) fell to all time lows; losing 11.57% or 0.28 to 2.14. Shares in Asanko Gold Inc (TO:AKG) fell to 52-week lows; down 6.27% or 0.180 to 2.690.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.97% to 13.46.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.18% or 2.26 to $1257.76 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.31% or 0.16 to hit $51.31 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.35% or 0.19 to trade at $53.96 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.74% to 0.7455, while CAD/EUR rose 0.45% to 0.6646.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.31% at 96.98.
