Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Healthcare, IT and Consumer Discretionary sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.01%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Uni-Select Inc. (TO:UNS), which rose 12.85% or 7.17 points to trade at 62.97 at the close. Meanwhile, Semafo Inc . (TO:SMF) added 9.49% or 0.45 points to end at 5.19 and Kinross Gold Corporation (TO:K) was up 9.08% or 0.54 points to 6.49 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Centerra Gold Inc (TO:CG), which fell 8.70% or 0.63 points to trade at 6.61 at the close. DH Corp (TO:DH) declined 7.98% or 2.69 points to end at 31.01 and West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd . (TO:WFT) was down 7.56% or 3.26 points to 39.88.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 449 to 393 and 76 ended unchanged.
Shares in Semafo Inc. (TO:SMF) rose to 52-week highs; rising 9.49% or 0.45 to 5.19. Shares in Kinross Gold Corporation (TO:K) rose to 52-week highs; up 9.08% or 0.54 to 6.49.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.26% to 15.46.
Gold for June delivery was up 1.49% or 18.65 to $1269.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.13% or 0.51 to hit $45.84 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.24% or 0.58 to trade at $47.51 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.44% to 0.7972, while CAD/EUR rose 0.19% to 0.7023.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.67% at 93.75.
