Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Materials, Energy and Utilities sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.92%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Alacer Gold Corp (TO:ASR), which rose 17.62% or 0.430 points to trade at 2.870 at the close. Meanwhile, IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) added 13.16% or 0.600 points to end at 5.160 and Pretium Resources Inc. (TO:PVG) was up 12.34% or 1.50 points to 13.66 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Intertape Polymer Group Inc . (TO:ITP), which fell 2.17% or 0.50 points to trade at 22.50 at the close. Computer Modelling Group Ltd. (TO:CMG) declined 2.04% or 0.20 points to end at 9.60 and West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd . (TO:WFT) was down 2.03% or 1.17 points to 56.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 854 to 316 and 110 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 26.35% to 11.63.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.46% or 17.55 to $1220.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 2.60% or 1.24 to hit $48.96 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 2.04% or 1.04 to trade at $51.96 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 1.29% to 0.7514, while CAD/EUR rose 0.10% to 0.7003.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.20% at 100.40.
