Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Healthcare, Consumer Discretionary and Clean Technology sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.63%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI), which rose 7.81% or 0.210 points to trade at 2.900 at the close. Meanwhile, Element Fleet Management Corp (TO:EFN) added 6.17% or 0.69 points to end at 11.88 and ECN Capital Corp (TO:ECN) was up 5.95% or 0.16 points to 2.85 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Great Canadian Gaming Corporation (TO:GC), which fell 8.42% or 2.16 points to trade at 23.49 at the close. Intertain Group (TO:IT) declined 6.34% or 0.55 points to end at 8.12 and Endeavour Mining Corp (TO:EDV) was down 4.39% or 0.950 points to 20.670.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 660 to 516 and 126 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 14.76% to 15.71.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.52% or 6.35 to $1217.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.32% or 0.60 to hit $44.97 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.18% or 0.55 to trade at $46.08 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.47% to 0.7402, while CAD/EUR rose 0.12% to 0.6963.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.56% at 100.94.
