Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Energy, Materials and Industrials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.61% to hit a new 52-week high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Celestica Inc. (TO:CLS), which rose 10.95% or 1.51 points to trade at 15.30 at the close. Meanwhile, Tourmaline Oil Corp . (TO:TOU) added 6.43% or 2.34 points to end at 38.73 and Gran Tierra Energy Inc . (TO:GTE) was up 5.38% or 0.220 points to 4.310 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Intertain Group (TO:IT), which fell 5.58% or 0.55 points to trade at 9.30 at the close. OceanaGold Corporation (TO:OGC) declined 3.46% or 0.150 points to end at 4.190 and Ensign Energy Services Inc . (TO:ESI) was down 3.44% or 0.31 points to 8.69.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 678 to 457 and 139 ended unchanged.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.37% to 12.76.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.00% or 0.05 to $1267.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.61% or 0.31 to hit $50.94 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.84% or 0.43 to trade at $51.81 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.82% to 0.7497, while CAD/EUR fell 0.43% to 0.6888.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.33% at 98.61.
