Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Real Estate, REITs and Healthcare sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.36%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were New Gold Inc . (TO:NGD), which rose 6.74% or 0.250 points to trade at 3.960 at the close. Meanwhile, Genworth MI Canada Inc . (TO:MIC) added 6.73% or 2.33 points to end at 36.93 and Canfor Corporation (TO:CFP) was up 6.02% or 0.90 points to 15.85 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc. (TO:ATA), which fell 3.67% or 0.48 points to trade at 12.60 at the close. Torex Gold Resources Inc (TO:TXG) declined 3.53% or 1.160 points to end at 31.690 and WestJet Airlines Ltd (TO:WJA) was down 2.49% or 0.54 points to 21.15.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 616 to 559 and 134 ended unchanged.
Shares in Genworth MI Canada Inc. (TO:MIC) rose to 52-week highs; up 6.73% or 2.33 to 36.93.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 8.72% to 11.31.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.53% or 6.55 to $1242.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.48% or 0.25 to hit $52.42 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.25% or 0.14 to trade at $55.19 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.34% to 0.7611, while CAD/EUR rose 0.30% to 0.7119.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 100.20.
