Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Energy and Materials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.86%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were TMX Group Limited (TSX:X), which rose 12.07% or 12.24 points to trade at 113.64 at the close. Meanwhile, Inter Pipeline Ltd (TSX:IPL) added 8.74% or 1.90 points to end at 23.64 and Cott Corp (TSX:BCB) was up 7.44% or 1.22 points to 17.62 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG), which fell 14.55% or 0.780 points to trade at 4.580 at the close. NuVista Energy Ltd . (TSX:NVA) declined 9.38% or 0.210 points to end at 2.030 and Ag Growth International Inc (TSX:AFN) was down 9.01% or 4.57 points to 46.13.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 679 to 392 and 111 ended unchanged.
Shares in TMX Group Limited (TSX:X) rose to all time highs; up 12.07% or 12.24 to 113.64. Shares in NuVista Energy Ltd. (TSX:NVA) fell to all time lows; down 9.38% or 0.210 to 2.030.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 11.57% to 12.53.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.46% or 7.05 to $1512.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 3.54% or 1.81 to hit $52.90 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.07% or 0.04 to trade at $57.74 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.05% to 0.7556, while CAD/EUR fell 0.14% to 0.6752.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 97.468.
