Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Mining, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Electrical sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 2.13% to hit a new 3-months low.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which rose 2.98% or 28.50 points to trade at 985.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT) added 0.21% or 0.80 points to end at 374.00 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) was down 0.08% or 0.50 points to 600.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which fell 5.65% or 35.90 points to trade at 599.50 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 5.30% or 22.10 points to end at 394.50 and SKY PLC (LON:SKYB) was down 4.66% or 41.50 points to 850.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1973 to 250 and 318 ended unchanged.

Gold for August delivery was down 0.14% or 1.75 to $1285.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.15% or 0.56 to hit $48.32 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.47% or 0.74 to trade at $49.61 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.96% to 1.4133, while EUR/GBP rose 0.10% to 0.7931.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.60% at 94.99.
