Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Life Insurance/Assurance and Banking sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.08%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Barclays PLC (LON:BARC), which rose 5.50% or 8.0500 points to trade at 154.5500 at the close. Meanwhile, Standard Life PLC (LON:SL) added 3.66% or 10.700 points to end at 302.900 and Schroders PLC (LON:SDR) was up 3.44% or 87.00 points to 2618.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Pearson PLC (LON:PSON), which fell 9.07% or 88.00 points to trade at 882.00 at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) declined 4.81% or 40.00 points to end at 791.00 and Royal Dutch Shell PLC (LON:RDSb) was down 2.41% or 49.5 points to 2002.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1083 to 1001 and 457 ended unchanged.
Gold for December delivery was up 1.18% or 15.85 to $1357.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.39% or 0.16 to hit $41.30 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $43.23 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.72% to 1.3259, while EUR/GBP rose 0.12% to 0.8426.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.19% at 95.54.
