Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Insurance, Steel and Finance & Investment sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 6.72%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were T&D Holdings, Inc. (T:8795), which rose 13.07% or 152.5 points to trade at 1319.5 at the close. Meanwhile, Unitika, Ltd. (T:3103) added 12.86% or 9.0 points to end at 79.0 and SUMCO Corp. (T:3436) was up 12.86% or 130.0 points to 1141.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Meiji Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:2269), which fell 8.17% or 810.0 points to trade at 9110.0 at the close. Nichirei Corp. (T:2871) declined 2.86% or 65.0 points to end at 2204.0 and Nippon Meat Packers, Inc. (T:2282) was down 1.07% or 29.0 points to 2679.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 3122 to 135 and 73 ended unchanged.
Shares in Unitika, Ltd. (T:3103) rose to 5-year highs; rising 12.86% or 9.0 to 79.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 22.46% to 21.44.
Crude oil for December delivery was up 0.46% or 0.21 to $45.48 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in January rose 0.80% or 0.37 to hit $46.73 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 1.10% or 14.05 to trade at $1287.55 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.37% to 105.28, while EUR/JPY fell 0.09% to 115.18.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.22% at 98.44.
