Investing.com – Australia stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the IT, Telecoms Services and Metals & Mining sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.90%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Nine Entertainment Co Holdings Ltd (ASX:NEC), which rose 9.74% or 0.260 points to trade at 2.930 at the close. Meanwhile, Idp Education Ltd (ASX:IEL) added 7.20% or 1.79 points to end at 26.66 and Platinum Asset Management Ltd (ASX:PTM) was up 6.42% or 0.28 points to 4.64 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Appen Ltd (ASX:APX), which fell 12.05% or 2.44 points to trade at 17.81 at the close. Nanosonics Ltd (ASX:NAN) declined 8.10% or 0.49 points to end at 5.56 and Seek Ltd (ASX:SEK) was down 7.80% or 2.20 points to 25.99.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 866 to 520 and 353 ended unchanged.

Shares in Idp Education Ltd (ASX:IEL) rose to all time highs; rising 7.20% or 1.79 to 26.66. Shares in Platinum Asset Management Ltd (ASX:PTM) rose to 52-week highs; up 6.42% or 0.28 to 4.64.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 0.34% to 15.273.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.10% or 1.85 to $1804.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.36% or 0.22 to hit $61.45 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.08% or 0.05 to trade at $64.43 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.13% to 0.7920, while AUD/JPY rose 0.44% to 83.61.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 90.058.
