US stock futures are higher this morning, as investors are awaiting economic reports. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 59 points to 12,714.00 and S&P 500 index futures rose 6.80 points to 1,340.90. Nasdaq 100 futures gained 15 points to 2,600.00.
US stocks closed lower on Monday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average dipping 0.98% to 12,695.35, the S&P 500 index dropping 1.11% to 1,338.35 and the Nasdaq 100 index dropping 1.06% to 2,902.58.
April consumer-price index and retail sales data will be released at 8:30 a.m. ET. Data on inventories and a home-building index will be released at 10 a.m. ET.
Dick's Sporting Goods Inc (NYSE: DKS) is expected to post its Q1 EPS at $0.38 on revenue of $1.23 billion. Saks Incorporated (NYSE: SKS) is projected to post its Q1 EPS at $0.18 on revenue of $764.35 million.
J. C. Penney Company Inc (NYSE: JCP) is estimated to post a Q1 loss at $0.10 per share on revenue of $3.48 billion. The Valspar Corporation (NYSE: VAL) is projected to post its Q1 EPS at $0.82 on revenue of $1.07 billion.
The TJX Companies Inc (NYSE: TJX) is estimated to post its Q1 EPS at $0.54 on revenue of $5.75 billion.
Groupon Inc (NASDAQ: GRPN) reported better-than-expected first-quarter revenue.
Agilent Technologies Inc (NYSE: A) reported upbeat profit for the fiscal second quarter.
European markets were higher today. The STOXX Europe 600 Index gained 0.36%, London's FTSE 100 Index moved up 0.03%, French CAC 40 index rose 0.74% and German DAX 30 index gained 0.06%.
Asian markets ended mixed, with Japan's Nikkei Stock Average dropping 0.81%, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 moving down 0.82% and China's Shanghai Composite dropping 0.25%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index rose 0.81% and India's Sensex gained 0.69%.
Crude-oil futures dropped in electronic trading Tuesday.
