Investing.com – Taiwan stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Optoelectronic, Oil, Gas & Electricity and Trading & Consumer Goods sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted rose 1.39%.
The best performers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Walsin Tech (TW:2492), which rose 10.00% or 2.50 points to trade at 27.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Sumagh High-Te (TW:1475) added 9.99% or 0.76 points to end at 8.37 and Msi (TW:2377) was up 9.98% or 4.35 points to 47.95 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tong-Hwa Synth (TW:1418), which fell 8.73% or 0.48 points to trade at 5.02 at the close. Ruentex (TW:9945) declined 5.56% or 2.35 points to end at 39.95 and Chiu Ting Mach (TW:1539) was down 4.66% or 1.55 points to 31.70.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Taiwan Stock Exchange by 652 to 145 and 57 ended unchanged.
Shares in Msi (TW:2377) rose to 52-week highs; rising 9.98% or 4.35 to 47.95.
Crude oil for May delivery was up 0.94% or 0.36 to $38.64 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in June rose 0.73% or 0.29 to hit $40.14 a barrel, while the June Gold contract rose 0.23% or 2.80 to trade at $1240.30 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 1.11% to 32.328, while TWD/CNY fell 0.30% to 0.2007.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.16% at 95.02.
