U.K. stocks higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 0.17%

Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Software & Computer Services and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.17%.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB), which rose 2.95% or 115.00 points to trade at 4015.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Micro Focus International (LON:MCRO) added 2.63% or 61.00 points to end at 2384.00 and Provident Financial (LON:PFG) was up 2.34% or 72.00 points to 3144.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Old Mutual PLC (LON:OML), which fell 4.38% or 8.70 points to trade at 190.00 at the close. Berkeley Group Hldgs (LON:BKGH) declined 2.15% or 68.00 points to end at 3087.00 and AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN) was down 1.97% or 97.50 points to 4857.50.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1084 to 885 and 459 ended unchanged.

Shares in Micro Focus International (LON:MCRO) rose to all time highs; rising 2.63% or 61.00 to 2384.00.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.67% or 8.45 to $1249.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.51% or 0.26 to hit $51.29 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.63% or 0.34 to trade at $54.51 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.31% to 1.2479, while EUR/GBP fell 0.42% to 0.8541.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 100.53.
