Toyota (TM) recalls 168K Tundra and Tundra hybrid pickups due to fire risk
Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE:TM) is issuing a recall for more than 168,000 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid pickup trucks manufactured during the 2022 and 2023 model years. This action is being taken due to the potential risk of a plastic fuel line developing a leak, which could potentially lead to a fire hazard.
According to the recall notice, plastic fuel lines near metallic break lines may rub together causing damage to the fuel line. If this happens, owners may notice the smell of gas or leaking fuel near the right rear of the vehicle.
In documents shared with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Toyota says that the fix will come in two phases.
First, dealerships will install protective materials and a clamp on the fuel tube as a temporary measure. Once an improved part is prepared, dealerships will replace the fuel tube with a newer version.
There is no estimated date for when the final fix will be available.
Shares of TM are down 1.2% in mid-day trading on Wednesday.
