Rates continue push higher, 10-year eyes 3%

  • The last time the 10-year Treasury yield hit 3% was Dec. 31, 2013. Interesting enough, but as David Schawel notes, the yield curve then was far different. The two-year note that day in 2013 was 0.38%. This morning, it's 2.19%.
  • It's no wonder leveraged carry players like the mortgage REITs (REM, MORT, MORL) are getting so beaten up this year.
  • The sharply flatter yield curve could be reason to pay a bit more attention to bearish economic prognosticators today than we did four years ago.
  • The 10-year yield today is up another three basis pints to 2.935%. TLT -0.15%, TBT +0.3% premarket
  • ETFs: IEF, PST, IEI, VGIT, UST, DTYS, TYO, GSY, SCHR, TBX, TYD, ITE, DTYL, HYDD, DFVL, TYNS, DFVS

Trading in financial instruments and/or cryptocurrencies involves high risks including the risk of losing some, or all, of your investment amount, and may not be suitable for all investors. Prices of cryptocurrencies are extremely volatile and may be affected by external factors such as financial, regulatory or political events. Trading on margin increases the financial risks.
Before deciding to trade in financial instrument or cryptocurrencies you should be fully informed of the risks and costs associated with trading the financial markets, carefully consider your investment objectives, level of experience, and risk appetite, and seek professional advice where needed.
