Louisiana U.S. Senate race will be decided in a runoff, networks project
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Louisiana U.S. Senate race will be decided in a runoff, television networks projected on Tuesday, in a contest that is critical to the Democrats' aim of keeping control of the Senate.
Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu, 58, a third-term incumbent, and Republican Representative Bill Cassidy will face off in a December runoff after neither won more than 50 percent of Tuesday's vote, the networks projected.
During the campaign Cassidy sought to tie Landrieu to the agenda of President Barack Obama. Landrieu campaigned on her record in the Senate, including steering large hurricane recovery funds to the solidly Republican state.
