Winamp Media Player From the 90s Releases NFT Project to Support Musicians

Winamp is a media player (MP3 sharing platform) for Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows, developed in 1997 and widely used before we stopped using computers for MP3. This spring, Winamp’s team is embracing the novelties of Web 3.0 and opening a foundation to support music creators.

First, the music company will auction its iconic and original Winamp skin from May 16 to May 22. The following day after the sale, Winamp will sell 20 NFTs artworks, Winamp skin derivatives, by 20 digital artists (0.08 ETH each). This one-of-a-time collection will have 1997 art pieces (19*100 and 1*97).

Winamp pledged to distribute the sales to charities that support the music industry and musicians.

The project aims to inspire musicians and provide them with control and transparency over their music rights and usage. Winamp believes that helping music artists to regain their power is the only way for music creativity to thrive and serve society.

Winamp has open submissions for artists until April 15.
