Kraken to NY Attorney General: Unprofessional, Malicious Conclusion That we Work Illegally

The American trading platform Kraken, one of the largest cryptocurrency markets, denied on Wednesday the New York Attorney General (AG)’s claim that the company may be working unlawfully in the state. The California-based platform, along with Binance and Gate.io, had refused to give information to the non-mandatory AG research on virtual markets integrity, which resulted in referring all three companies to the New York financial regulator for “potential violation” of the laws.

Publishing its official response on Twitter, Kraken affirmed that it had never operated within New York State’s borders and therefore there was no need to reply to the Attorney General’s questions. Moreover, the exchange accused AG Barbara Underwood of having a hostile attitude towards the company.

“We must, however, object to the highly unprofessional/malicious implication that because we did not respond to the voluntary information request, we *might* be operating illegally. We told you we don't operate in NY. AG trying cases in court of public opinion now,” the exchange said.
