Dark Galaxies: Star Wars on the Blockchain

Humanity has been moving towards unification for a long time, through wars and misunderstanding. The era of prosperity finally comes in 2028, according to the developers of the Dark Galaxies game How Fats Ya Cat Pte. Ltd.. And then, finally, the united humanity enters outer space on a full scale, where it meets with other united nations, which also master the galaxies and colonize the planets. The story close to the whole history of the Earth civilizations is reproduced, now at the galactic level.

Card game with two tokens
To get a glimpse into that future, you have to become a player in the trading card game Dark Galaxies. This is a Play-to-Earn game with two cryptocurrencies DTX and DTF, running on the WAX blockchain, and NFTs, to which game assets are pegged, which reside in the Atomic Assets structure.

Technically Dark Galaxies is a browser-based WebGL game built in Unity, a cross-platform game engine developed by Unity Technologies. It supports a variety of desktop, mobile, console, and virtual reality platforms and is popular for indie game development. WebGL (Web Graphics Library) is a JavaScript API for rendering interactive 2D and 3D graphics within the web browser without the use of plug-ins. This technology is most suitable for the tasks of the game, in which new fantasy worlds and entities create a game environment.

Thematically, the game is based on a book series with well-developed characters and a detailed plot outline. This approach promises that players will not get bored. Books are issued every third month and are distributed very widely in different formats like paperback versions, PDFs, and bundles. 3 books have already been published, and the release schedule is strictly observed. There will be 7 books in total. The books in the PDF format are pegged to NFTs.

It is known that the Universe consists of 6 different galaxies, 1 galaxy for each race (faction), with 2400 planets, and 400 planets per faction. Each planet is owned by a player. Each planet is initially divided into 25 land plots. The one who owns the planet can use its resources, and lands, and must also defend it from attacks by other players.

How does a card game turn into a P2E game with NFTs?
Defending a planet and attacking other planets are actions that are rewarded with DTX tokens. And besides, all planets have reserves of a valuable substance, Duterium Refined, which is used for interstellar flights. This is kind of an asset, it is required for gameplay and is a valuable commodity. And that's what makes Dark Galaxies a P2E game. Duterium Refined is tokenized as DTF, there will be a maximum supply of 100 billion DTF.

But it is the utility token Duterium (DTX), which is used for a variety of applications, such as buying DTF mining tools from the Intergalactic Store. DTX is the main currency of the game for all cases when a gamer wants to pay and trade. The two tokens, as well as their combination, create the Dark Galaxies economy. The tokens’ distribution is made with the creation of a reserve fund in mind, Galactic Treasury, where 10% DTX and the same amount of DTF are allocated. These treasury funds can be used for providing liquidity to a decentralized exchange as well as for other corporate uses.

Many artifacts (in-game items) are woven into the game, known from other science fiction books, movies, and games, as well as the legends of the peoples of the Earth. For example, at the beginning of each game, the player receives a certain amount of mana. This is the spiritual life force energy or healing power that permeates the universe. In the philosophical traditions of Southeast Asia, mana is part of the universe; without it, our world would be dead.

All the main objects are pegged to NFTs, which have five increasing rarity levels: Common, Rare, Epic, Legendary, and 3D. There are different NFTs for characters, planets, lands and mining tools. Each NFT-type has its specific set of attributes, counting from 7 to 11. All the NFTs will live in the Dark Galaxies collection.

The game has been continuously developed since Q3'20. Following the development of the concept, schemes, and templates, card decks and poker chips appeared and are being sold. Poker chips are used as "fiddle toys" like poppets, fidget spinners, squishy balls, etc., and are responsible for the interconnection between the Dark Galaxies' virtual world and the real world. Then Alpha 1 Release appeared in Q4'21. Alpha 2 Release was launched in Q1'22. In fact, Dark Galaxies is being developed in line with the popular trend for metaverses, although the developers have not yet spoken about this. Perhaps Dark Galaxies is the future metaverse that has already laid the foundations for its economy with DTXs, DTFs, and NFTs.
