Adidas Enters the Metaverse: This is What You’ll Find in Their First NFT Drop
Adidas Originals are in the metaverse now; partnered with NFT pioneers Gmoney, PUNKS Comic, and Bored Ape Yacht Club, the sports fashion brand launches its first NFT drop on the 17th of December, 2021.
The exclusive drop will have 30,000 NFTs available for minting, at a price of 0.2 ETH (or approximately $800 USD at the time of writing) per NFT.
The ‘Into The Metaverse’ NFT collection will also grant holders access to its partners’ physical merchandise in 2022 (including an adicolor Firebird tracksuit, graphic hoodie, and Gmoney’s orange beanie).
“The opportunity with the metaverse is it creates infinite possibilities for us to connect, create and belong, and it's especially that belonging part that we focused on initially,” said Tareq Nazlawy, Adidas’ Senior Digital Director.
Gordon Goner and Gargamel, the co-founders of the Bored Apes Yacht Club, are also enthusiastic about Adidas (OTC:ADDYY) joining the metaverse:
“Adidas has a storied history of marking iconic moments and cultural shifts. By adidas embracing the open metaverse, it signals a shift in granting stake to communities who participate in sport and culture. We hope this marks a shift in brands inviting creators to pioneer with us.” On November 22nd, 2021, Adidas began contemplating a partnership with The Sandbox to “design the future together” and create cool outfits for the metaverse’s avatars. This quickly became a reality and digital Adidas wearables will soon be available on the blockchain-gaming platform.
