U.S. Coal Distribution Fell In The Fourth Quarter

By Meagan Clark - Coal distributed in the U.S. fell about 7 percent in the fourth quarter ended December 2013 compared to the third quarter and 6 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2012, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported Tuesday.

In the Quarterly Coal Distribution Report, the EIA estimated total coal distribution at 210.9 million short tons in the fourth quarter of 2013. The report details coal distribution by origin state, destination state, mode of transportation and consuming sector.
