While some blamed this on the expectation of higher interest rates, there was also plenty of focus on the commodity markets. I expect this interest to continue in the week ahead. This guess looked good at the start of the week, but gradually the premise eroded. By week’s end the payroll data looked more like a one-off, so the interest rate effects reversed.
