Real Median Household Incomes: Up 0.5% In April But Only Fractionally

: The Sentier Research monthly median household income data series is now available for April. Nominal median household incomes were up $77 month-over-month and $877 year-over-year. However, adjusted for inflation, real incomes rose $266 (0.5%) MoM but are up only $317 (0.6%) YoY. The reason for the counterintuitive larger increase in MoM real incomes is that the Consumer Price Index for April dropped 0.4% from the previous month.
The traditional source of household income data is the Census Bureau, which publishes annual household income data each September for the previous year.
