Oil prices continued to tumble on Friday, to hit the lowest level since 2009, as investors piled on to their short positions in anticipation of lower prices in the new year amid concerns over a growing supply glut.
GOLD
Gold prices edged higher on Friday, but still remained below the $1,200 threshold as markets re-opened after the New Year Holiday and the broadly stronger dollar continued to weigh on demand for the precious metal.
