U.S. stocks ended Monday mixed to higher after dovish comments from European Central Bank President Mario Draghi offset news that Japan unexpectedly fell into a recession last quarter. At the close of U.S. trading, the Dow Jones rose 0.07%. About 5.7 billion shares changed hands on U.S. exchanges, 12 percent lower than the three-month average. In the U.S., industrial production dropped last month, weighed down by declines at utilities, mines and automakers that signal manufacturing started the fourth quarter on a soft footing. Separate data showed the Fed Bank of New York’s Empire Index increased less than forecast in November.
