Kicking the Can, Ignoring the Inevitable

It’s been just over a year since the March banking crisis, when we saw three of the four largest bank failures in US history. So it should really be no surprise that to avoid talks of systemic failure and bank runs the Fed swooped in with an emergency Bank Term Funding Program (BTFP), to prop up the banking sector. But now, a year later, the safety net has expired, having distributed $168B during its life.
