10-Year Note Non-Commercial Speculator Positions:
Large bond speculators strongly added to their bearish net positions in the US 10 Year T-Note Futures markets this week, according to the latest Commitment of Traders (COT) data released by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on Friday.
The non-commercial futures contracts of 10-Year Note futures, traded by large speculators and hedge funds, totaled a net position of -375,365 contracts in the data reported through Tuesday April 3rd. This was a weekly fall of -70,153 contracts from the previous week which had a total of -305,212 net contracts.
The speculative bearish position is now over the -300,000 net position for a third week and is at the most bearish level since February 28th 2017 when net positions totaled a record high -409,659 contracts.
10-Year Note Commercial Positions:
The commercial traders position, hedgers or traders engaged in buying and selling for business purposes, totaled a net position of 566,052 contracts on the week. This was a weekly rise of 30,613 contracts from the total net of 535,439 contracts reported the previous week.
IEF ETF:
Over the same weekly reporting time-frame, from Tuesday to Tuesday, the iShares 7-10 Year Treasury Bond (NYSE:IEF) ETF (NASDAQ:IEF) closed at approximately $102.79 which was a decrease of $-0.21 from the previous close of $103.00, according to unofficial market data.
